Subsequent stages — Thrust or Bust, Cock-A-Doodle-Doom, Hard to Bear, and Armored Hardcore — will be available each following Thursday at 6am Pacific / 9am Eastern / 2pm UK. Master Onion is the secret 301st bot, the last one you’ll unlock in the game. Astro Bot is the most recent entry in the Astro Bot series and was released in 2024 for the PlayStation 5 in celebration of PlayStation’s 30th anniversary. Astro Bot is developed by Team Asobi, who also worked on previous titles where Astro appeared, including the PS5 console’s tech demo Astro’s Playroom.
To collect the Mothership’s Memory in Astro Bot, you need to complete all main world levels in the Gorilla Nebula. Is there anything more satisfying than getting that Platinum trophy? To score your Platinum trophy in the PlayStation classic Astro Bot, you must first collect all other Astro Bot trophies. This means not only 100%ing Astro Bot (collecting all Rescued Bots, Puzzle Pieces, and 150 out of 169 Gacha Lab prizes) but uncovering all the little secrets and PlayStation easter eggs which unlock trophies.
Trapped In Time Overview
As fun as the gameplay and nostalgic references are, what really makes Astro Bot’s gameplay so great is the accompanying music. Kenneth C.M. Young returns as the composer and brings the same energy he brought to Astro’s Playroom. From the moment that the first level begins, players will hear that this music has electric energy to it.
They gradually fill up the desert crash site, turning this hub world into a bustling Sony museum. @Quintumply Are the secret stages/hidden levels required to get the platinum? I am just curious if there’s a steep difficulty barrier to get the platinum. I consider myself a decent platforming player, but I know my limits on having perfect reaction timing. Astro Bot is a stunning 3D platformer, and easily among the best games in PS5’s library.
But maybe the PlayStation didn’t need an answer to Nintendo and Sega’s beloved mascots. Games were entering an era in which more realistic human characters like Cloud Strife, Solid Snake and Lara Croft were becoming the new industry icons. As this more mature stream of gaming culture evolved, cutesy mascot characters and the 3D platformers they called home became less and less common. When Microsoft entered the industry with the Xbox in 2001, Halo’s Master Chief instantly shaped the console’s image. Microsoft’s purchase of Rare, a studio that had created platformers with mascot-like characters for Nintendo, almost seemed like an afterthought.
You need to fly around the Nebula with your space ship until a UFO appears that holds the puzzle pieces, simply fly into it to collect it. If you replay levels, you can buy a satellite at the start for coins that marks the collectible locations. However, you need 15,000 coins to buy 150 gatcha items for the Money Well Spent trophy, so it’s best to not spend coins on the satellites. After reaching 100% completion you will have close to 15,000 coins if you don’t spend them on satellites. If you don’t have enough coins you can always replay levels to get more. The game also crashed on me twice, both times erasing more progress than I’d have expected since I assumed it auto-saves after each level, but I’d lost about three or four levels of progress in both instances.
I mentioned my age to explain the reasons for my lack of appeal for the game, not to provide spurious ammunition, and in hindsight being honest and forthright appears to have been a mistake. Are you all so desperate for a new game to play that you over hype a children’s game so highly? That cheapens the achievements of the better games that proceeded it.
I play with my controller mic off by default, and I’d find lifting it up to my mouth to be immersion-breaking. I’d say your only potential hurdle is some of the challenges, as they can be quite tough, but broadly speaking the game is on the easy side. Thanks for the review, I really needed something positive after the bad day I had today. Back to mid budget single player titles without all the heavy stakes attatched if it fails. Considering the industry is influx, it’s not farfetched this will be the go-to again.
The Bots, with the CPU Kid’s help, repair and revive Astro, and appear in the background of the final planet in the story, Credits Clash. Bots return under their current name in Astro Bot Rescue Mission, where they serve as the crew of their captain, Astro Bot, similarly to Robots Rescue. In this game, they traveled peacefully with Astro in the Astro Ship through space, until the Alien appears and attacks the ship, stealing a headset and scattering the crew across five worlds. Throughout the game, Astro Bot progresses through 25 levels to rescue his crew and fix their ship. Eventually, Astro Bot reaches and defeats the Alien, giving the crew a peaceful ending.

It really feels like the developers thought of everything, and thanks to their efforts, Astro Bot is pure joy in video game form. I went into it with high expectations thanks to Astro Bot Rescue Mission and Astro’s Playroom, and it not only met my expectations, but completely exceeded them. It’s the best 3D platformer since Super Mario Odyssey hit the scene in 2017 and will be remembered as an all-time classic of the genre. Everyone with a PS5 should get their hands on this game ASAP, and hopefully, Team Asobi gets to continue making masterpieces. One level allows you to explore a recognisably domestic world but you can drastically change size, bashing through doorways one minute and wriggling through a gap in the skirting board a minute later.
With precise and responsive controls, adorable characters, and an exciting variety of mechanics and environments, Astro Bot is easily one of the best games that Sony has ever produced. It seems odd to say I don’t want to spoil a game that effectively has no story, but some of the game’s best secrets really must be discovered with your own eyes. [newline]These special levels arrive toward the end of each galaxy’s main mission path and bestow to you a bundle of themed bots as well as yet another cool new mechanic not to be seen ever again in the game. Its soundtrack–already an array of bubbly earworms–reimagines familiar overtures from other games. In doing all of this for these most-special one-offs, the promise of its world comes into full view.
Astro Bot swarms the player with bright ideas, sparking almost endless joy. Astro Bot levels challenge players to collect all the stranded bots, but there are other things players will want to keep an eye out for as well, like coins and puzzle pieces. Everything players collect goes to Astro Bot’s hub world, the Crash Site. Here, hundreds of rescued bots congregate and can be used within the hub to rescue even more bots.
There’s not a single name that comes to mind with the Astro Bot minions. It’s a shame, because Team Asobi brilliantly showed players how creative they are. If they actively described the enemies and dedicated a bit more time to making them iconic, they would have left a more significant impression on the gamers. In the game’s defense, this is more of a missed opportunity than a flaw. The PS5 features a slew of fantastic story-based games, including titles like Final Fantasy XVI, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, and Ghost of Tsushima.

@Kienda Christmas NiGHTS was incredible and the first meaningful example of a game using the real world date and time I can remember. Nah, there are few other very good games on PS5 as well, but not too much, as with every system. I wish they did more actual levels like this rather then the speed run levels while they were enjoyable nothing can beat the free roam ones. I always enjoy Christmas themes in games, as I’m a sucker for all things Christmas. Some highlights include the rarely used mouse power-up, allowing you to shrink down and enter a tiny gingerbread town, and using the metal ball power-up to descend a chimney into a cosy living room.
The fifth level remains a mystery, but Team Asobi did tease a new bot for Ghost of Yotei. It even teased a new feature upon completing these new Vicious Void levels. gg888 has proven to be not only one of Sony’s most successful games but one of the most successful games of all time, at least critically speaking. It does but that’s just recycling mechanics or aspects from those games, it’s not that original, it doesn’t fill in gaps those games don’t offer either regardless of platformer then horror, RPG or open world contexts. I will sound old, but kids today don’t understand how games like these would probably create much better gaming experiences and fun memories than most modern, grindy, live service trash. 10/10 — OutstandingThe pinnacle of a given genre at the time of release, these titles raise the bar in virtually all critical categories.
